A Moody Sideboard
Our Monday Mix shared a new color and a little bit of the process that was used to pick the final color. In that post, I alluded that the design is for a specific piece of furniture in a particular space.
In fact, it was a lovely sideboard in our guest house that needed a makeover. At the same time, I also needed to introduce the latest Efex moldings so thinking ” two birds with one stone” the design became a process.
Concurrent with all of this I have been crushing on moody, dark scenes. The wall in our guest house is a lovely French Linen which is one of my go-to colors, so that was out. There was a brief thought of waxing the wall with white wax for a contest, but what happened to my moody scene I was trying to create?
Searching the web for black led me to graphite with more black to darken it. But it was too black, and I don’t like the concept. I stumbled across a mix of Graphite and French Linen that looked like it would work.
After playing around with the color, the combination was settled then all that was left was the finish. The clear wax was to light, and my go-to black wax was too dark. I finally decided on dark wax by Annie Sloan.
Two coats of paint, clear wax and then dark wax finished the project. A touch of copper gilding wax blended the color of the Efex Swag SW9 matching the old hardware.
Voila… a moody winter sideboard for the holidays.
