Zinc is hot in home decor. A quick look at Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, or West Elm and you will see that table tops made of zinc and tin are everywhere. However, many of them are very pricy. It makes sense that we can use our great Chalk Paint® to get this luxury look for less.

We have been working on the perfect faux zinc finish here at the Maine Country Home. First, we searched the web reading all the different techniques that are out there, and then we took the time to practice some.

We used a great round empire table that has been waiting for the perfect finish. It was in great shape and had these fun claw feet but really needed a makeover.

To create this look you need Chalk Paint®, Clear Soft Wax by Annie Sloan, and Gilding Wax.

The base of table very easy. Start with a coat of French Linen Chalk Paint® and then add an Old White wash. This makes a great grain style finish, that works on almost any style piece. Read here for tips on getting the perfect washed finish.

Finally, finish with Clear Wax.  It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

You can get all of the products to get the faux zinc look at The Maine Country Home, or from our online store.
